Estimation of site effect using microtremor technique at 15th May City, Helwan, Egypt
Local site effect is an important feature of seismic hazards, which often causes amplification of ground motions and results in increasing the damage potential of earthquake. This paper presents an experimental study of microtremor data to investigate the dynamic characteristics of soil and structures at the 15th May City, southeast Cairo, Egypt. This city was constructed on Eocene sedimentary rocks ... Read more

Dynamic geotechnical properties evaluation of a candidate nuclear power plant site (NPP): P- and S-waves seismic refraction technique, North Western Coast, Egypt.
Determination of the dynamic geotechnical properties and Vs30 of soil and rocks from seismic wave velocities serves as essential inputs for a foundation design cognizant of seismic site response and rock strength. This study evaluates a site which was suggested for a Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in El-Dabaa area, north western coast of Egypt. On the near subsurface geology is ... Read more

Imaging engineering problems and shallow geological characterization using passive seismic techniques
Despite the modernity of the 15th May city, buildings suffer progressively from particular engineering problems which are increased over the last 10 years. Therefore, seismic refraction and MASW surveys were performed in this study to address the causes these effects. Nineteen profiles for both shallow seismic refraction and 1-D multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) were performed to determine the ... Read more
