Urology department, Sohag faculty of medicine

Purpose of the educational post graduate program:

1- To provide the postgraduate students with the basic principles and advances in the field of urology and male infertility to be an independent urologic surgeon, to solve urology and male infertility problems and treat diseases within Sohag.

2- To improve the graduates’ capabilities and increasing their intellectual, professional and practical skills in the field of urology and male infertility.

3- Provides Candidates with a training course in the field of urologic operations.
Attributes of the post graduate:

I. General Requirements:

o Candidates should have either:
1. MBBChDegreefromanyEgyptianFacultiesofMedicineor

Equivalent Degree from Medical Schools abroad approved by

the Ministry of Higher Education
o Regulatory rules of postgraduate studies of Sohag Faculty of

Medicine.

II. Specific Requirements:

o Candidates graduated from Egyptian Universities should have at least “Pass Rank” in their final year examination, and grade “Pass Rank” in Surgery Course too.

o Candidate should know how to speak & write English well.
o Candidate should be trained for at least one year in one of the

general or discrete hospitals of Egyptian Ministry of health Suggested Academic Reference Standards:

A-Knowledge & Understanding

A.1. Know and apply the following basic sciences which are appropriate to urology:

1 Anatomy and histology

2  Physiology

3  Pathology

4  Microbiology

5  Pharmacology

A.2. Know and apply clinically supportive sciences in the fields:

1  General surgery

2  Radiology

3  General and specific urology

4  Nephrology

A.3. Research methodology, data analysis, interpretation and statistics .

B-Intellectual skills

By the end of this program candidates will be able to:

B.1. Communicate effectively and demonstrate caring and respectful behaviors when interacting with patients and their families in the following situations:

At the outpatient clinic

At the emergency unit

At the inpatient department

At the operative theater

B.2. Gather essential and accurate information as regards:

1  Personal history

2  Socioeconomic aspects

3  Cultural background and preferences

4  Urologic problems

5  Male genital problems

6  Trauma of the genitourinary system

B.3. Make informed decisions about diagnostic and therapeutic interventions based on patient information and preferences, up-to-date scientific evidence, and clinical judgment for the following conditions:

1  Elective urologic cases

2  Urologic emergencies

B.4. Develop and/or carry out patient management plans for elective urologic cases

3 Urologic emergencies

5 Care after intervention

B.6. Perform competently all medical and invasive procedures considered essential for the following area of practices:

1  Renal failure and anuria

2  Hematuria

3  Acute scrotum

4  Urinary retention

5  Priapism and fracture penis

6  Renal colic

7  Urosepsis

8  Urology trauma

B.7. Provide health care services aimed at preventing the following health problems:

1  Urinary tract infection

2  Urinary stones

3  Bilharzial infestation

4  Bladder cancer

5  Chronic renal failure
