Supported ionic liquid water sorbent for high throughput desalination and drying
The composite material 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium methanesulfonate ionic liquid in Syloid AL-1FP silica shows unprecedented water vapor sorption equilibrium properties. Equilibrium data were recorded at different loads of ionic liquid in the silica support (from 1.8%w to 60%w). At loadings>1.8%w, all the composites show type 3 isotherm, therefore conserving the vapor-liquid equilibrium of the bulk ionic liquid/water binary system but with increased ... Read more

Mohamed Refaat Diab, Ahmed S. Alsaman, Adsorption desalination-cooling system employing copper sulfate driven by low grade heat sources
In this study benefits of employing copper sulfate salt hydrate with water vapor as a new adsorption pair in thermally driven adsorption desalination-cooling systems (ADCSs) have been investigated. Adsorption characteristics (isotherm and kinetic) of copper sulfate/water vapor pair have been presented in this study within temperature range of 25-55°C. Sun-Chakraborty (S-C) and Dubinin- Astakhov (D-A) models have been used for ... Read more

Recycling brine water of reverse osmosis desalination employing adsorption desalination: A theoretical simulation
Intake, pretreatment and brine disposal cost of reverse osmosis sea water desalination systems represent about 25% of total cost of the desalinatedwater. The present study investigates effect of reverse osmosis brine recycling employing adsorption desalination on overall system desalinated water recovery. The adsorption desalination produces dual useful effects which are high quality potable water and cooling effect. Reverse osmosis desalination ... Read more

Weather effect on a solar powered hybrid adsorption desalinationcooling system: A case study of Egypt’s climate
Effect of employing solar hybrid adsorption desalination-cooling system (ADCS) at the Egyptian weather has been investigated using TRNSYS software employing meteorological data of Assiut city at Egypt. A theoretical model of a semi continues hybrid ADCS employing silica gel-water has been used. Maximum specific daily water production (SDWP) is found to be about 10 m3/ton of silica gel. Moreover, maximum ... Read more

A state of the art of required techniques for employing activated carbon in renewable energy powered adsorption applications
This paper reviews, for the first time, the measurement adsorption characteristics techniques to facilitate optimal testing of the validity of adsorbent materials in adsorption applications. Thermo-physical properties, adsorption characteristics and modelling techniques are presented. The characterisation of material thermophysical properties includes true and bulk densities, specific heat capacity, surface area, pore volume distribution and thermal conductivity. The adsorption characteristics were ... Read more

High potential of employing bentonite in adsorption cooling systems driven by low grade heat source temperatures
In this research article a new modified adsorbent has been presented to be used in thermally driven adsorption systems for renewable energy applications. Bentonite is introduced as a cheap adsorbent with high potential for use in heat pumps or chillers driven by renewable energy. A simple acid activation procedure increases the inner surface of the material and also enhances the ... Read more

Performance evaluation of a solar-driven adsorption desalinationcooling system
Problems of energy and fresh water shortage become hard challenges facing survival of the human beings. Egypt especially is facing increasing of water supply challenges due to population growth. In this study, a new proposed solar adsorption desalination-cooling (ADC) system is designed, built, and tested under Egypt's climate conditions. A commercially available silica gel of about 13.5 kg is used. ... Read more

Towards an accurate estimation of the isosteric heat of adsorption – A correlation with the potential theory
Accurate estimation of the isosteric heat of adsorption is mandatory for a good modeling of adsorption processes. In this paper a thermodynamic formalism on adsorbed phase volume which is a function of adsorption pressure and temperature has been proposed for the precise estimation of the isosteric heat of adsorption. The estimated isosteric heat of adsorption using the new correlation has ... Read more

Effect of improving thermal conductivity of the adsorbent on performance of adsorption cooling system
In this paper, effect of using metallic additives on thermal conductivity of granular activated carbon has been investigated. Fillings of iron, copper and aluminum at different mass concentrations ranging from 10 to 30% have been studied. The thermal conductivity of the combinations has been estimated experimentally. The thermal conductivity has been increased with the increase in metal concentrations. A mathematical ... Read more

Adsorption isotherms and kinetics of HFC-404A onto bituminous based granular activated carbon for storage and cooling applications
Adsorption characteristics of granular activated carbon/HFC-404A has been investigated in terms of adsorption isotherms and kinetics. AquaSorb 2000 which is bituminous based carbon has been used as an adsorbent. Experimentally and theoretical investigations have been conducted within temperature range of 25–75 C. Experimental results have been fitted with Dubinin–Astakhov (D–A) and Tóth equations for the isotherms and linear driving force ... Read more
