Papillary thyroid carcinoma, evaluation of prophylactic central compartment’s dissection versus conservative management: a prospective study
ABSTRACT Background: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is one of the commonest thyroid cancers. While there is consensus of block node dissection in nodal positive patients, there is controversy in dealing with nodal negative patients regarding the need of block node dissection. We aimed to evaluate prophylactic central lymph node dissection (pCLND) versus conservative management in PTC with N0 neck. Methods: ... Read more

Evaluation of safety and efficacy of laparoscopic appendectomy during pregnancy
ABSTRACT Background: Optimal surgical approach for appendectomy during pregnancy remains controversial. The objective of this study is to evaluate (LA) during pregnancy as regard safety and outcome compared with open appendectomy (OA). Methods: Patients with acute appendicitis during pregnancy who were admitted to Sohag University Hospital from August 2014 to April 2018 were randomized to 2 groups: Group A (OA, ... Read more

The Role of Varicocelectomy on Patients with Premature Ejaculation and Varicoceles
This study aimed to assess the role of varicocelectomy in the improvement of premature ejaculation (PE) in patients with clinical varicoceles and PE. Materials and Methods: In a prospective clinical study, it conducted on 85 male patients with clinical varicoceles and PE. Those patients were selected from whom attending the Outpatient Clinics of Andrology and General Surgery at Sohag University ... Read more

LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY DURING INDEX ADMISSION IN PATIENTS WITH MILD TO MODERATE ACUTE BILIARY PANCREATITIS: PROSPECTIVE RANDOMIZED STUDY
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Owing to the high incidence of gall stones in our locality, acute pancreatitis with its complications remains a continuous risk. For that reason cholecystectomy is of prime importance to avoid this problem but the proper timing for cholecystectomy still remaining a subject of ongoing debate. AIM: The aim of this prospective randomized study is to compare the outcome ... Read more

OUTCOME OF LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY FOLLOWING ENDOSCOPIC RETROGRADE CHOLANGIOPANCREATOGRAPHY- DOES TIME INTERVAL MATTER?
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: The ideal management of common bile duct (CBD) stones is preoperative endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) followed by laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) which should be safe and cost effective. The time interval between ERCP and LC is a matter of debate. AIM: To evaluate the effect of time interval between ERCP and LC in patients with calcular obstructive jaundice as ... Read more

Critical view of safety in laparoscopic cholecystectomy: A technique to avoid human factors induced bile duct injuries
Abstract Background. ‘Critical view of safety’ (CVS) technique was introduced to avoid bile duct injury (BDI) due to misidentification of anatomy during laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). This study aimed at assessing the feasibility and comparing the outcome of LC through CVS with those performed by ‘infundibular technique’ (INT). Patients and Methods. A prospective randomized study included patients who had LC as ... Read more

Histopathologic patterns of testicular biopsies in infertile azoospermic men with varicocele
In azoospermic infertile men with varicocele, testicular biopsy revealed histopathologic patterns that varied from disorganized spermatogenesis with low or moderate sperm scores to early (primary spermatocytes stage) or late (spermatid stage) arrested spermatogenesis or germ cell aplasia and Sertoli cells only. Diagnostic testicular biopsy can be helpful for accurate management of azoospermic infertile men with varicoceles before surgical repair. Read more

Post-cholecystectomy bile duct injuries: when to repair?
ABSTRACT Background: Post cholecystectomy bile duct injury (BDI) though rarely happens; it has its own impact on postoperative outcomes. There is controversy on the optimal time for repair of such injuries. The aim of this study was to analyze the different time modalities used for repair of these injuries and its outcomes. Methods: This was a prospective randomized study conducted ... Read more
