Leukocyte induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in sperm from leukocytospermic samples.
There is much debate as to whether the origin of ROS in semen is from sperm, seminal leukocytes, or both. The objective of this study was to investigate the role of seminal leukocytes in enhancing ROS production by sperm. Semen specimens were obtained from 48 patients [leukocytospermic (n = 16), non-leukocytospermic (n = 32)] and 13 normal donors. Levels of ... إقراء المزيد

Increased potential for high reactive oxygen species generation in pure sperm from leukocytospermic patients
Objective: Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) is the most powerful stimulant of cellular generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Enhanced PMA response has been correlated with poor semen quality, reduced sperm fertilizing potential and male infertility. The objective of this study was to investigate PMA response in pure sperm (free of leukocyte contamination) obtained from leukocytospermic patients. Design: A prospective clinical ... إقراء المزيد

Increased sperm nuclear DNA damage in normozoospermic infertile men: a prospective study.
Conclusions: The results of this study indicated a significant incresae of SCSA-defined sperm nuclear DNA damage can be found in sperm from infertile men with normal standard semen parameters. Therefore, sperm DNA damage analysis may reveal a hidden abnormality of sperm DNA in infertile men who were previously classified as idiopathic based on apparantly normal standard semen parameters. إقراء المزيد

Positive effects of in-vitro Myo-inositol supplementation of cryopreserved human sperm on the outcome of cryopreservation: a randomized controlled trial
OBJECTIVE _Myo_-inositol is a naturally occurring component of vitamin B complex that is involved in cellular signaling pathways. There is a growing evidence on the potential beneficial effects of _Myo_-inositol supplementation on both natural and assisted fertility. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of _in_ vitro _Myo_-inositol supplementation of cryopreserved human semen on the post-thaw sperm ... إقراء المزيد

Oxidative stress and acrosomal morphology: A cause of infertility in patients with normal semen parameters
INTRODUCTION: Acrosome has a vital role in the process of penetration of zona pellucid (ZP). It is highly susceptible to elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress (OS). As generally accepted that OS stress has deteriorating effects on sperm functions, we studied the effect of OS on sperm parameters and acrosomal structure in infertile patients with normal semen parameters. ... إقراء المزيد

Oxidative stress and epididymal sperm transport, motility and morphological defects
Objectives: Radical oxidative species (ROS) have an important effect on sperm quality and quantity. Oxidative stress (OS) occurs when production of potentially destructive reactive oxygen species (ROS) exceeds the body’s own natural antioxidant defenses, resulting in cellular damage. OS is a common pathology seen in approximately half of all infertile men. Increased ROS generation and reduced antioxidant capacity is negatively ... إقراء المزيد

Increased sperm nuclear DNA damage in normozoospermic infertile men: a prospective study.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate levels of sperm nuclear DNA damage in infertile men with normal and abnormal standard semen parameters. DESIGN: Prospective study. SETTING: Male infertility clinic. PATIENT(S): Ninety-two men seeking infertility treatment and 16 fertile volunteers. INTERVENTION(S): Standard semen analysis was performed according to the World Health Organization guidelines. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Sperm DNA damage was assessed by sperm chromatin ... إقراء المزيد
