Summary:

Introduction:

There has been an increasing interest in directing efforts towards the development of thinking as an essential tool of knowledge. The goal of the educational process is no longer limited to acquiring students the knowledge and facts, but also to developing their thinking abilities.

Most of the studies that were conducted to determine the learning and thinking pattern of students indicate that the left thinking pattern  is the dominant one in learning and thinking patterns of the students' performance. The results of these studies indicate that the education systems are interested in developing the left half functions at the expense of the right half which leads to the dominance of the left half.

Many studies indicated the importance of using the brain as awhole during the learning process and not to focus on one side of the brain without the other. This  because the sovereign pattern of the two halves of the brain not only affects the form and style of mental and cognitive processes of the individual , but also extends to all personal aspects (Nermin Allam, 2006).

Slavin (Slavin, 1994:368) indicates that the personal characteristics of the learner are the factors that influence the motivation for learning.

Some studies aimed at modifying  the dominant pattern of students using enrichment activities and modern methods of teaching with a focus on the activities of the half brain, which is  not preferred to them;  which means thinking by  the use of the brain as a whole and access to the integrated mode. Some studies also dealt with the multi-talents program to develop the thinking patterns and to prove its effectiveness in developing patterns of the brain two halves.  The researcher  conducts  and develops the multi-talents program, which includes five talents (planning, creative thinking, decision-making, development, communication).

The motivation is considered as one of the required and necessary tasks on which the occurrence of the learning process depends, because there will be no a learning process without a motive directs and pays the student to achieve the goal, where it can be interpreted by many aspects of human behavior in the light of the motivation of the individual, because the performance of the individual and his insistence on doing certain acts or continuing  these  actions depends on his motivation (Izzat Muhammad, 1999: 101)

The importance of revealing the motivation to learn and the effective role of students in stimulating their efforts and directions  in order to have  more achievement in their work in general, and in the process of learning in particular, and the motives  affects on the processes of attention and perception, imagination, memory, thinking and innovation, which in turn are linked to learning which  affects and is affected (Fathi al-Zayat: 1996: 449)

The motivation to learn is one of the most important goals of the educational process that the teacher always seeks to develop in the learners in order to strive them towards acquiring knowledge and skill with inner desire, enthusiasm and enjoyment. The motivation of the students creates the spirit of love and understanding between them and the teacher. And this  motivates the student to study his material in order to have  his satisfaction. (Mahmoud Mansi, 2003: 54)

The Research Problem:

It is clear from the above information that students are classified according to the dominant pattern to three types: the right, left, and integrated patterns. Most of the researches indicate that the dominant pattern among students is the left pattern. This may be due to the fact that education systems are interested in developing left half at the expense of the right half Which leads to the control of the left half

So the educational organizations are in need for  training programs for the development of  thinking skills that are associated with  brain halves  together to achieve the integrated pattern.  The results of previous studies , which used multi – talents  program indicate that thinking skills  are linked with  brain, especially the key five skills as creative thinking , communication, forecasting , decision - making, and  planning.  And through training on these sub-skills, students become familiar with the thinking patterns required to make academic information meaningful, leading to increased motivation for learning.

Training on the  sub-skills of the multiple Talents  Program not only leads to the development of these skills, but also leads the students to achieve an integrated pattern. Herman ( Herman, 1982) suggests that having training in innovative activities leads to the development of brain halves in an integrated way. The solution of the problem  creatively requires the use of both sides of the brain, and describes those who solve the problem in a creative way are described by using two halves of  the brain equally or they are two sides pattern . ( Muhammad Elnagar, 2006: 50)

Because the colleges of education prepare students to practice their profession after graduation, so the development of some thinking skills of the brain halves benefits them a lot during their current studies, beside  benefiting  from the development of these skills while dealing with their students during their work after graduation,  and hence comes the importance of selecting the sample  of research from  students of  Faculty of Education.

Hence, there is a need for  developing  a multi-talents training program to develop the thinking patterns of the students of Faculty of Education in order to achieve the  integrated pattern, which in turn can lead to increasing the  motivation for learning.

Thus, the current research problem can be identified in the development of some thinking patterns related to the two halves of the brain to achieve the integrated pattern of students of the Faculty of Education and increase their motivation for learning, using a training program based on the multi-talents model.

Research Goals:

The current research aims to identify:

1- The impact of using a multi-talents program on the development of thinking patterns related to the brain halves (left and right) among students of the Faculty of Education.

2- The impact of a program based on multiple talents in achieving the integrated pattern  of students of the Faculty of Education

3- The impact of a multi-talented training program on  increasing  motivation for learning among students of the Faculty of Education.

Research Importance :

The research acquires its importance from several aspects including:

1- The research has a special educational importance as it is a recent experimental research contributes to the detection of the effectiveness of the use of the multi-talents  program in the development of the prevailing pattern of learning  of the brain of students of the Faculty of Education, as the current education systems develop the left half of the brain and neglect the  development of the right half of the brain.

2- It draws  the attention of educators and curriculum developers to the importance of the functions of the two halves of the brain in the educational process in general, and in the planning of curricula , educational activities, experiences and programs. It must be taken into account the activation of the functions of the two halves of the brain without the use of traditional methods of the  left-pattern  at the expense of the other pattern .

3- The importance of the current research is reflected in the many recommendations of the previous studies which called for further studies on the development of thinking patterns related to the brain halves and the pragmatic multi-talents program which is a relatively modern program , and its transfer to the Sohag University can make a development  in the programs of teaching thinking and a development in  thinking patterns associated with the brain halves.

  • It draws  the attention of those who are responsible for the teacher preparation programs at the university especially faculty  of education to the importance of including programs for the development  of activities and functions of the two halves of the brain together (integrated pattern) within  the curriculum of  teacher preparation.

Basic Sample Study:

The  basic study group consisted of (140) students from the Faculty of Education, in  the third stage  of  physics and psychology departments . The experimental group consisted of (35 experimental types of right pattern, 35 experimental types of left pattern). The control group consisted of (35 of right pattern and 35 of left pattern), for the academic year (2016/ 2017).  And the sample research was selected with a deliberately intentional way, with an average age of (20,7) years.

Research Tools:

The current search used a number of tools as follows:

1- Test of the thinking skills prepared by the researcher.

2- Measurement of information processing patterns prepared by Paul Torrance and others P.Torrance et others.

3- Measurement of the motivation for learning, prepared by Emad Ahmed Hassan and Mustapha Mohamed Ali.

4- High IQ Test, Prepared by Elsayed Mohamed Khairy.

5-  A training program based on the multi-talents model prepared by the researcher.

Research Hypotheses:

1-  There were no statistically significant differences in the post-test of thinking skills associated with the right half of the brain between the average scores of the experimental group and the average of the control group scores according to the prevailing right thinking pattern.

2-  There were no statistically significant differences in the post-test of thinking skills associated with the left half of the brain between the average scores of the experimental group and the average scores of the control group according to the right dominant thinking pattern.

3-  There were no statistically significant differences in the post-test of thinking skills associated with the right half of the brain between the average scores of the experimental group and the average  scores of the control group according to the right dominant thinking pattern.

4- There were no statistically significant differences in the post-test of thinking skills associated with the left half of the brain between the average scores of the experimental group and the average scores  of the control group according to the left-side thinking pattern.

5- There is no difference in the dominant (right, left, integrated) thinking pattern of the experimental group students and the dominant thinking pattern of the  control group students according to the right dominant pattern.

6- There is no difference in the dominant (right, left, integrated) thinking patterns of the experimental group students and the dominant thinking pattern of the  control group students according to the left side prevailing thinking pattern.

7- There were no statistically significant differences in the posterior test of motivation for learning between the average scores of the experimental group students  and the average scores of the control group students according to the right side of the prevailing thinking pattern.

  • There were no statistically significant differences in the posterior test of motivation for learning between the average of the experimental group and the average of the control group, according to the prevailing thinking pattern.

Statistical Processing:

The statistical processing was done using the SPSS program.  The statistical processing methods were represented by: arithmetical average, standard deviation, T test for two independent samples, T test for two paired samples, One- way ANOVA, Cohen scale to compute (ES)& (ɳ2), Blake equation and Torrance scale.

Research Results:

The study reveals that the effectiveness of the suggested training program in:

  1. Developing the thinking skills associated with the right hemisphere of the brain for the right thinking dominant pattern students as the statistical differences in testing between the experimental group and the control group were in favor of the experimental group.
  2. Developing the thinking skills associated with the left hemisphere of the brain for the right thinking dominant pattern students as the statistical differences in testing between the experimental group and the control group were in favor of the experimental group.
  3. Developing the thinking skills associated with the right hemisphere of the brain for those with the left thinking dominant pattern as the statistical differences in testing between the experimental group and the control group were in favor of the experimental group.
  4. Developing the thinking skills associated with the left hemisphere of the brain of those with the left thinking dominant pattern as the statistical differences in testing between the experimental group and the control group were in favor of the experimental group.
