Background: Contraceptive counseling for diabetic women is very important: Diabetes damages blood vessels in the eyes and kidneys. If diabetes has damaged eyes or kidneys before pregnancy, these problems may get worse with pregnancy, Diabetes puts women at risk for high blood pressure during pregnancy,Women with type 1 diabetes are at higher risk for developing diabetes ketoacidosis during pregnancy

Aim: The aim of study is to assess  the impact of contraceptive counseling on diabetic women in sohag health hospitals during post parum  period

Subjects and methods: Quasi experimental  Research – design was carried out in this study, Sample size was estimated to be 200 individuals devided into two groups, one control group(100 case) and one study group(100 case), The study was conducted in sohag hospitals for women after labour in post partum department (Outpatient clinics and inpatient clinics ) from 7 places ( Sohag university hospitals - Sohag general hospital – Sohag teaching hospital - El Helal hospital - Akhmim Hospital –Day Hospital)- then interviewed another time with women after 40 days in family planning clinics of these hospitals and (dar salama abdallah center)

Results: the study revealed that the majority of women had a poor knowledge, contraceptive counseling had important role and good effect on knowledge of diabetic women and follow up, the majority of women in the study group had follow up (94%), and had good knowledge

Conclusion: the present study concluded that a greater percentage of women didn’t  hear  about family planning methods for diabetes and had poor knowledge about it, the minority of them used it before.
