The main objective of this research was to develop a simple and sensitive electrochemical method for determination of trace-level of luteolin using vulcan carbon black (VCB) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Compared with the bare GCE, the VCB/GCE exhibits higher electrocatalytic ability toward luteolin oxidation. This is due to the large surface-to-volume ratio of the carbon black together with the good conductivity. The results illustrated that the oxidative peak currents increased linearly with the concentration of luteolin in the range of 2.40 x 10-9 to 5.14 x 10-8 M, with a detection limit of 2.21 x 10-9 M (S/N = 3). Moreover, the analytical performance of the sensor was successfully applied for the determination of luteolin in peanut hulls as a real sample with satisfactory results.
