Abstract:

Polygamy is an aspect of marriage. When Islam came, it established rules and regulations for marriage; so that marriage does not turn into a kind of tyranny and slavery that man uses to humiliate and exploit woman. During recent times, Polygamy has become significant enough that many necessary interests several contemporary societies need and depend on. Thus, it is necessary to reveal the wisdom of polygamy in Islam in general and that of the prophet's (peace be upon Him)(in particular); and to identify the most important educational implications in the prophet's  marriages (peace be upon Him) and their educational applications in our contemporary life as well.

Consequently, the problem of the current study has been defined in answering the following major question : -

- What are the educational implications in the prophet's marriages (peace be upon Him)? Can they be applied to our contemporary life?

The answer of the preceding major questions required answering the following minor questions : -

  1. What are the philosophy and warrants of polygamy in Islam?
  2. Who are the prophet's wives (peace be upon Him)? What are the conditions of His marriage (peace be upon Him) to each one of them?
  3. What are the most important educational implications in the Prophet's marriages (peace be upon Him)? What are the aspects of educational application of these implications to our contemporary life?

The current study has been aimed to : -

  1. Identify the prophet's wives (peace be upon Him) and the conditions of His marriage to each one of them as well.
  2. Reveal the most important educational implications in the prophet's polygamy (peace be upon Him).
  3. Demonstrate the relationship maintained between the prophet's polygamy (peace be upon Him) and His concern with strengthen the pillars of the first Islamic nation and to spread Islam as well.
  4. Investigate social and personal necessities of polygamy in Islam.
  5. End up with the possibility of benefiting from the most important educational implications in the prophet's polygamy (peace be upon Him)? And how can they be educationally applied in our contemporary life?

 The researcher has used the descriptive method as well as content analysis as one of the descriptive method tools in order to analyze the conditions of the prophet's marriage (peace be upon Him) to each one of His wives (peace be upon Him), which will result in figuring out the most important educational aspects and implications in the prophet's polygamy (peace be upon Him), and their applicability to our contemporary life.

The study has resulted in many findings including : -

  1. All of the prophet's marriages (peace be upon Him) were due to sublime wisdom including social, political, legislative and educational ones.
  2. The prophet's polygamous marriage was not due to lust or pleasure. Instead, it was due to a supreme end and an ultimate wisdom used for setting splendid examples in good sobriety, chastity and strength, which its first end was to prepare a unique Islamic army in terms of type and age.
  3. Educational implications in the prophet's marriages (peace be upon Him) can be beneficial in our contemporary life in terms of many aspects those are : -
  • Educational implications in virtue of an appropriate marital relationship which involves the relationship between the man and his wife and the relationship between the wife and her fellow wife as well.
  • Educational implications in virtue of bringing up our daughters as future mothers.
  • Educational implications in good neighborhood and its influence on society.
  • Educational implications in virtue of preparing woman to be governess and teacher in society.
  • Educational implications in virtue of keeping the entity of the Islamic nation.
