This study was carried out at the experimental buffalo farm of the Animal Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Minufiya University, Shibin El-Kom, during summer 2003 and 2004. The main aims of this work were to study: 1. Some behavioural aspects related to animal comfort and could be used to evaluate buffaloes housing systems. 2. The influence of housing systems on behavioural activities. 3. The Influence of bedding materials on behavioural activities of lactating buffalo cows. The present study included two main experiments, in the first one behavioural activities of lactating buffalo cows and buffalo calves between tie stalls and loose house were compared to evaluate which systems animal prefer. In the second one different lying surfaces (hard surface, straw, sawdust, newspaper and sand) were compared using behavioural activities of lactating buffalo cows to define which surfaces make lactating buffalo cows comfort and behave normally.
