English Summary

This part includes a summary of the problem and its context, findings, recommendations and suggestions for further researches.

The Problem of the study

The problem of this study lies in disregarding enhancing thinking skills and scientific concepts of kindergarten children. Further, it lies in disregarding following interesting techniques moving away from traditional ones .Consequently, it makes lack of meeting children needs to develop their thinking skills and scientific concepts, and achieve the objectives of kindergarten. Hence, examining the program of six thinking hats may be appropriate to develop both thinking skills and scientific concepts of kindergarten children.

Questions of the study:

  1. What is the suggested vision of the six hats thinking program in developing thinking skills and scientific concepts for kindergarten child?
  2. What is the effectiveness of a suggested program in science which is based on six thinking hats in developing some thinking skills for kindergarten child?
  3. What is the effectiveness of a suggested program in science which is based on six thinking hats in developing some scientific concepts for kindergarten child?

Hypothesis of the study:

  • There is a statistically significant difference at (0.05) level between the mean scores of the experimental group children in the pre and post application of thinking skills test favoring the post application.
  • There is a statistically significant difference at (0.05) level between the mean scores of the experimental group children in the pre and post application of scientific concepts test favoring the post application.

The purpose of the study:

This study aims to investigate the effect of the suggested program in developing thinking skills and scientific concepts for kindergarten children.

Significance of the study:

The significance of the study stems from the following considerations:

  • Suggesting a program based on six thinking hats in developing thinking skills and scientific concepts for kindergarten teachers, and supervisors
  • It may be beneficial for curricula and kindergarten programs designers in considering thinking skills and scientific concepts.
  • It may be helpful for kindergarten teachers in applying new thinking programs such as six thinking hats program and applying it in science and other fields.
  • It may richen kindergarten teachers' knowledge about applying six thinking hats program in developing thinking skills for kindergarten child, which helps them carry out and apply them in a perfect way.

Delimitations of the study:

  • The current research is restricted to a group of kindergarten children (5-6) years in Tema experimental school (kindergarten department), as tools and capacities for the study are available there.
  • It is restricted to developing the following thinking skills for kindergarten child: observation, comparison, classification, arrangement, and analysis, intuition, collecting data and suggesting alternates.
  • It  is restricted to developing the following scientific concepts for kindergarten child : water, floating , diving , melting , light, shadow, rainbow, five senses , heat , food, magnet, sound , gravity , air, air pressure , air pollution , and water pollution .
  • The current research also restricted to applying the suggested program which is based on six thinking hats in science.

Design of the study:

The quasi experimental design was adopted in this research to investigate the effectiveness of the suggested program in developing thinking skills and scientific concepts for kindergarten child in the light of six thinking hats for (Debonno, kindergarten children, level 2). One group was selected, the pre application of tools of the study was administered, the treatment was done; applying the suggested program, and then

the post application of tools of the study was administered.

Tools and materials of the study:

The researcher prepared the following tools and materials:

  Materials of the study :

  • a suggested program to teach scientific concepts using six thinking hats program for De Bonno.(prepared by the researcher)
  • a list of thinking skills for kindergarten children
  • a list of scientific concepts for kindergarten children
  • a teacher's guide

 Tools of the study :

  • a photo copied  test  to measure the thinking skills for kindergarten children.
  • a photo copied test to measure the scientific concepts for kindergarten children.

Sample of the study:

The current research is restricted to a sample of 30 kindergarten children, (5-6) years old, in Tema experimental school, Sohag, as materials, tools and equipment for the study are available there.

Procedures of the study:

  • Reviewing literature and previous studies related to research problem to construct tools of the study.
  • Preparing the theoretical background that helps the researcher design a suggested program to develop thinking skills using six thinking hats and applying it in kindergarten and preparing the educational tools related to this.
  • Identifying a list of thinking skills that may be appropriate for kindergarten children and submitting it to a group of juror.
  • Identifying a list of scientific concepts that may be appropriate for kindergarten children and submitting it to a group of juror.
  • Preparing a suggested program in science based on six thinking hats.
  • Preparing a teacher's guide for kindergarten teachers and submitting it to a group of juror.
  • Preparing a photo copied test to measure the thinking skills for kindergarten children and submitting it to a group of juror.
  • Preparing a photo copied test to measure the scientific concepts for kindergarten children and submitting it to a group of juror.
  • Administering the pilot study
  • Administering the treatment which means :
  • Selecting and adjusting the sample of the study
  • Training a kindergarten teacher to apply six hats thinking program in teaching research sample children.
  • Administering the pre application
  • Administering the suggested program
  • Administering the post application
  • Finding the results and analyzing them statistically
  • Providing recommendations and suggestions for further researches related to the current research.

Findings of the study:

The findings of this research were as follows:

  • There is a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the research group in the pre and post application of thinking skills test favoring the post application.
  • The value of the effect size of the effectiveness of the suggested program in the overall skills and each skill in separate ,ordered  were as follows:  observation (0.77) , comparison (0.74), classification(0.76),arrangement (0.74), collecting data (0.80) , analysis (0.71),intuition (0.80),suggesting results (0.72), and as overall was 82% in a highly significance and this means that the suggested program has a great effect on developing the thinking skills as the value is greater than 80%.
  • The effect size value in overall thinking skills was (1.6) using modified acquisition percentage equation for Blake and this value lies in the range he determines for effectiveness which is between (1) to (2) .
  • There is a statistically significant difference at (0.5) level between the mean scores of the children in the pre-post application of the scientific concepts test toward the post application.
  • The value of the effect size of the scientific concepts as overall for kindergarten children was (0.83) and this means that the suggested program has  a great effect in developing scientific concepts for kindergarten children .
  • The effect size value in overall scientific concepts was (1.9) using modified acquisition percentage equation for Blake and this value lies in the range he determines for effectiveness which is between (1) to (2) .

The research reached to provide some recommendations and suggestions for further researches related to the research problem.
