Size of transition elements

The radii decrease with increasing atomic number and then increase again toward the end of each transition series. Ni has the smallest radii among the transition elements

On descending from Sc → Y → La (the first group), the size of atoms increases because of addition of extra shells of electrons. In the following groups, there is hardly any increase in radius of the second and third elements
