Dietary algal-sourced zinc nanoparticles promote growth performance, intestinal integrity, and immune response of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).
Background Trace elements play a crucial role in fish nutrition, with zinc (Zn) being one of the most important ele ments. BIO-sourced zinc nanoparticles were synthesized using the green microalga Pediastrum boryanum (BIO-ZnNPs, 29.35 nm). 30 or 60 mg/ kg dry feed of the BIO-ZnNPs (BIO-ZnNPs30 and BIO-ZnNPs60) were mixed with the Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) basal diet and fed ... Toxicity Evaluation, Oxidative, and Immune Responses of Mercury on Nile Tilapia: Modulatory Role of Dietary Nannochloropsis oculata
The current study evaluated the potential ameliorative effect of a dietary immune modulator, Nannochloropsis oculata microalga, on the mercuric chloride (HgCl2)-induced toxicity of Nile tilapia. Nile tilapia (45–50 g) were fed a control diet or exposed to ¼ LC50 of HgCl2 (0.3 mg/L) and fed on a medicated feed supplemented with N. oculata (5% and 10% (50 or 100 g/kg ... Read more

Nephrotoxicity of Single or Combined Exposure to Microplastics (MPs) and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) in African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus)
It is unclear how fish in freshwater ecosystems are affected by the combined presence of microplastics (MPs) and anionic surfactant detergents. So, our investigations focus on the nephrotoxic effects of both Polyethylene microplastics (PE-MPs) and Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) in single or combined exposure on African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus). In the current study, rearing water of catfish (Clarias gariepinus) was ... Read more

Manipulative Strategies of Aquatic Arthropods for Fish Parasitism: A Review
Several aquatic arthropodan classes, including Arachnida, Crustacea, and Ostracoda can parasitize on fish and might cause discomfort or serious harm to their tissues. These organisms can parasitize fish through either obligatory, facultative, or opportunistic relationships according to their behavior or the surrounding conditions. Free-living arthropods may be induced to parasitize fish by various physiological, environmental, or biological stimuli. Some other ... Read more

Impact of transportation in freshwater and brackish water on Oreochromis niloticus (Nile tilapia) resistance
Background: Oreochromis niloticus has great economic value and potential for farming and development. Transportation of fish was done for breeding or trading purpose and it is a challenging aspect of aquaculture. This study aimed to investigate the effect of transportation in freshwater and brackish water on the resistance of O. niloticus as well as transportation stress mitigation effect of NaCl. ...
