Heavy metals pollution in Manzala Lake sediments, Egypt: variability, sources, and assessment
The environmental pollution of lake systems due to anthropogenic factors is of growing concern worldwide. Manzala Lake is the largest northern coastal-deltaic lakes of Egypt and has socioeconomic impacts. In this study, the concentrations and origins of seven heavy metals (HMs) and the organic content in the Manzala Lake sediments were explored during the winter and summer. The concentration of ... Geochemical and mineralogical characteristics of some Gold mine tailings in the Eastern Desert of Egypt
The adverse environmental effects of mine tailings disposal on the surrounding ecosystems are worldwide environmental problems. Due to environmental issues related to tailings discharged on land surface, detailed tailings characterization is a prerequisite for a long-term management solution. The tailings from four gold mines in Egypt, namely Fatira, El Sid, Barramiya, and Atud were investigated for their geochemical-mineralogical features and ... Read more

Environmental Impact of Wastewater Inflow on Groundwater Quality, West Girga, Sohag, Egypt
This research aims to determine the effects of wastewater irrigation on the groundwater quality west of Girga, Sohag, Egypt. Twenty-six groundwater and one sewage-treated effluent samples were analyzed using standard methods for a range of physio-chemical and microbiological parameters. Surrounding the wastewater plant, about 46% of collected samples were impacted by wastewater contamination, as indicated by positive detections of fecal ... Read more

Secondary mineralogy around Um Gheig mine wastes, Eastern Desert, Egypt
Alteration of abandoned mine sites and wastes generates variable secondary mineral phases that incorporate different toxic trace elements with a prospective threat to the neighboring ecosystems. The main focus of this study was to investigate the mineralogical and geochemical changes at neutral pH where dry condition prevails around oxidation-primary contacts interface and the surface in Um Gheig Pb/Zn mine, Eastern ...
