The depth dependence of elemental composition, phase distribution, and cross-sectional morphology of rf plasma nitrocarburized 304 austenitic stainless steel were investigated using glow discharge optical spectroscopy (GDOS), grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD), and optical microscopy, respectively.
