detection of phenylketonuria in sohag children
Phenylketonuria (PKU) is one of the commonest inborn error of metabolism, it is an autosomal recessive metabolic genetic disorder characterized by a mutation in the gene for the hepatic enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH), rendering it nonfunctional. The diagnosis of this disorder can be confirmed by analysis of urine components. The present study aimed to assess the prevalence of PKU among ... Read more

Back-Arc ophiolitic rocks at Wadi El-Markh, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt
El Markh ophiolitic sequence is formed mainly of imbricated and dismembered ultramafic-mafic rocks including serpentinites, metagabbros, boninitic metagabbros and metabasalts. The major and trace elements data indicate that the serpentinites and the metagabbroic-basaltic association are not related to each other by fractional crystallization of a common parental magma, but represent independently generated magmas. The gabbroic-basaltic association were produced by the ... Read more

G of Neeochemistry and petrogenesisoproterozoic Nuqara Dokhan volcanics, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt
The Neoproterozoic Nuqara Dokhan volcanics are distinguished into two main groups: a) intermediate volcanics that comprised basaltic andesites, andesites and their associated pyroclastics, b) felsic volcanics, consisting of dacite, rhyodacite, rhyolites and ignimbrites.. Their major and trace elements have a wide ranges in which SiO2 (76-54%), CaO (8.95-0.2%), TiO2 (1.6-0.4%), Sr (97-52 ppm), Zr (40-160 ppm), Cr (231-4 ppm), and ... Read more

Petrological and geochemical characters of the Sikait gneissose granite complex, Eastern Desert, Egypt.
The Sikait gneissose granite complex occupies the area between the upper reaches of Wadi Sikait and Wadi Abu Rusheid, covering an area of about 26 km2 exposed along the core of a SE plunging anticline. Detailed field studies revealed that the Sikait gneissose granite complex can be differentiated into gneissose granodiorites, gneissose granites, and gneissose alkali feldspar granites arranged from ... Petrographical, geochemical and metamorphic aspects of allochthonous Hammamat sediments at Wadi Mubarak, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt.
The old hammamat sediments along Wadi Mubarak (previously mapped as metasedimentary Beririq Formation) form an allochthonous unit trending NE-SW, sandwiched between island arc assemblage (lower unit) to the north and ophiolitic melange (upper unit) to the south. These old Hammamat epiclastic sediments are composed essentially of alternating coarse polymictic conglomerates, fine polymictic conglomerates, siltstones, arenites, grewackes intercalated with calcareous pelites. ... Petrographical and geochemical characters of the selected pebbles from some occurrence of the basal Hammamat conglomerates, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt.
The Hammamat Group includes a thick succession of unmetamorphosed clastic sediemnts in the eastern desert of Egypt. The unconformity relationship with the underlying Dokhan volcanics and older rocks is recorded in several occurrences. However, it is established that the Hammamat sediments and DOkhan volcanics were formed penecontemporaneously. The present study deals with detail study of two occurrences of basal conglomerates, ... Contributions to the petrography, petrochemistry and petrogenesis of Hamret Ghannam and Um Naggat granitoids, Eastern Desert, Egypt. Egypt.
Field, petrographical and petrochemical studies revealed that Hamret Ghannam granite intrusion can be differentiated into two phases, an earlier phase of porphyritic granite and a later phase of alkali feldspar granite. Also Um Naggat granite intrusion is separated into pink granite, alkali feldspar granite and albite granite phases. However, it is argued that both granite intrusions are of magmatic origin. ... Effect of water–rock interaction processes on the hydrogeochemistry of groundwater west of Sohag area, Egypt
Groundwater is used intensively for land reclamations and domestic purposes in new reclaimed areas west of the Nile Valley in Sohag Governorate, Upper Egypt as it is the only source of water in the area. Twenty-six groundwater samples are collected to evaluate the hydrochemical characteristics and the impact of water–rock interaction on the chem-istry of groundwater using classical geochemical and ...
