The Egyptian Government and the private sector are interested in developing the low desert zone outside the floodplain of the River Nile. The low desert zone in the west side at Upper Egypt, represents large future sustainable zone for different types of activities including agricultural, urbanization, wastewater disposal and landfill sites, and industrial zones. The groundwater resources in dry regions can be evaluated using an integrated approach that allows managing the data of the geographic information system (GIS) for spatial analysis and supporting the process of decision-making. The main aim of this study is to investigate the hydrogeological, hydrochemical, flood hazard conditions and to evaluate the groundwater quality in the study area. The hydrogeological study is based on collecting the basic hydrogeological data of the wells in the study area, to identify the aquifer geometry, and to assess its potentiality in addition to provide a guideline for groundwater management in the study area. The hydrochemical study aimed to determine the physical and chemical parameters of the groundwater as well as to evaluate the suitability of the water resources for domestic and agricultural purposes.
