The gold deposits of Egypt are mostly in the Eastern Desert whichis hosted by Precambrian rocks. Within the Eastern Desert the gold mineralizationdisplays high clustering in the central and southern parts rather than the northern part.Eastern Desert of Egypt has been considered the main target for gold exploration andexploitation. The gold deposits can be divided into five groups based on thei[ locations, five major gold bearing fonnations, and four mineralization episodes. Goldbearingquartz veins in graphite schist contain more gold than veins in other rocks andthe schi sts themselves are gold bearing. Zones of hydrothennal alteration are alsogold-bearing. Main \vork at several Eastern Desert go ld districts is briefly described. All the districts are thought to be worth further work. especially in new directions indicatedby recent developments in the geology of gold deposits.
