Abstract: Synthesis of novel N-acyl hydrazones of nicotinic acid hydrazide via condensation of nicotinic acid hydrazide 3
with the corresponding aldehydes, and to study their hypolipidemic activities. Methods: after design and synthesis of
nicotinic acid derivatives, forty-two male adult Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into seven groups; six animals
each. Group I, normal control was fed a standard diet. The remaining six groups received high cholesterol diet, where
group II is hyperlipidemic control and groups from III-VII were treated with gemfibrozil, compounds 1, 2, 4 and 5,
respectively. At the end of the experiment, serum was separated for estimation of total cholesterol, triglycerides, lowdensity
lipoprotein cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Results: The hydrazones were found to
decrease the levels of serum total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in hyperlipidemic rats to a greater degree
than the reference gemfibrozil. Conclusion: hydrazones of nicotinic acid hydrazide drivatives had hypolipidemic activities
