ABSTRACT
A numerical taxonomic analysis was applied for 280 morphological characters collected from 44 species of water mites. This analysis was based on three methods; SPSS, MDS and PCA to study the morphological variations within and between the suborders, families, genera and species of these water mites. On the basis of these methods, the studied water mites were categorised to three distinct groups which represent a polyphyletic assemblage of taxa. The representatives of these groups showed a highly significant factor loading (> 0.7) in PCA analysis. The respective rates of nonsignificant variations in the morphological characters are 18.78%, 9.53% and 7.9% for the three groups of mite taxa with total variation that equals to 36.41 %.
