وضع جسيم عند أعلى نقطة من سلك أملس على هيئة سيكلويد محوره رأس ورأسه إلى أعلى وأزيح الجسيم من السكون بخفه لكى ينزلق على السلك. أثبت أن الجسيم سيترك السلك عند نقطة المماس عندما يصنع زاوية مع الأفقى.
