1-Current Job10 / 2012: Professor of Maxillofacial Head and Neck Surgery Division, in the Department of Surgery. My current job specifications include:

 

  • Academic activities: Teaching the undergraduate medical students, regularly in clinical rounds, case presentations and interactive discussion;

-       Teaching the undergraduate and postgraduate medical students using different methods of presentations. The main topics are General Surgery with special interest on Maxillofacial infection trauma and tumours; Neck; Thyroid; and General Trauma Surgery.  

-        Teaching the postgraduate medical students in regular clinical tutorials.

-       Supervising and teaching the postgraduate surgeons principles and skills of surgical techniques.

-       Supervising the postgraduate research works and I am supervising regularly the MSc and MD thesis in collaboration with other Colleagues in our Department, other Departments and other Universities. .

-       Examiner in the board for the final M.B., B.Ch, Master Degree, and MD in General Surgery and other surgical specialities in the University of Sohag and other Egyptian Universities.

 

     •    Clinical activities:

-       Two session in the Out Patient Clinic a week;

-       A full day and half day list with special interest on cases of head and neck surgery especially thyroid; parathyroid; Maxillofacial trauma and salivary gland surgery; as well as reconstructive and facial aesthetic surgery.

-       Consultant (3rd) in call two in seven rota.

4-12/ 02/ 2001-31/01/2002:

Full-Time Clinical Fellow (equivalent to Specialist Registrar) with one in four rotas in Head and Neck Surgery Unit, at Manchester Royal Infirmary. I was doing regular clinics in both Maxillofacial/Head and Neck Surgery with special interest in trauma and oncology. I have gained a lot of experience in theatre and I have conducted all minor, moderate, and most of the major surgical operations in this field. I had carried out a regular teaching sessions for the junior post-graduate students.  

5-April 1997-January 2001:

During this period, I have both clinical and academic interests in the Department of Maxillofacial/Head and Neck Surgery, Manchester Royal Infirmary. I have been attending regular outpatient clinics; assisting with a wide range of surgical procedures including oncology, trauma, and facial deformities, salivary gland and reconstructive surgery including microvascular surgery. The number of clinical sessions/week was 5. I was sharing regularly with the audit meeting, CPC meeting, and regional meeting in Head and Neck Oncology. I have gained an excellent experience with pre-operative assessment, post-operative care and follow-up of our patients, especially those with Head and Neck Cancer and Maxillofacial trauma. I have a detailed experience in dealing with Database management and SPSS and teaching junior post-graduate doctors basic surgical skills.

During this period in addition to my clinical activities I have carried out my PhD project. The project of my Thesis was about Clinical Outcome and Quality of Life of Oral Cancer Patients. My supervisor was Mr Brian Thomas Musgrove, Consultant and Clinical Director of Maxillofacial Unit, in the MRI, Central Manchester Healthcare Trust.

6-1994-1997

Full-Time Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Surgery, Sohag University Teaching Hospitalª, Sohag, Egypt. My duties during this time was to teach the undergraduate medical students, 2 sessions/week; practical teaching of the junior surgeons; charring in 2 list each week; regular morning ward rounds; attending out-patient clinics; and in the rota for on call (second) on the base of 1 in 5. I have spent most of this period in the Dept. of General Surgery with special interest in surgical oncology. I have involved in managing patients with various types of breast disorders, especially those with breast cancer. I have also, involved in managing patients with hernia; upper and lower GIT disorders, especially patients with colorectal cancer; laparoscopic surgery; and thyroid surgery (which is endemic in Sohag territory). During this period I have gained experience in dealing with various Emergencies, especially, acute abdomen; haematemesis; and trauma cases. I have involved in the work in some surgical specialities, which are Plastic, Paediatric, and Vascular Surgery.  

7-1990-1994

Full-Time Resident Senior House Officer in the Department of Surgery, Assiut University Teaching Hospital, Assiut, Egypt. I have spent most of this time in General Surgery Department in addition to A&E, Plastic, Paediatric and Vascular Surgery. During this period, I was responsible about the administrative work of my patients; attending out-patient clinics; preparing the patients for the operative list; managing post-operative problems; assisting my senior colleagues in operative procedures. It was the period during which I have gained my basic surgical skills in different surgical specialities. I have performed most of the emergency surgeries such as; appedicectomies; intestinal obstruction including strangulated hernia; and laparotomy including those due to internal haemorrhage.
