From March 2000 till now, I have been exposed to very extensive experience in Neurosurgery. I have assisted in, and operated on all fields of neurosurgery.

I have a very big experience in Emergency Neurosurgery including head trauma, spinal trauma, and medical neurosurgical emergencies as brain abscess, acute hydrocephalus and ruptured encephaloceles and meningomyeloceles. I have performed hundreds of such emergency cases.

Regarding Pediatric Neurosurgery, this branch has very high record of operations in our department, specially; congenital hydrocephalus, spina bifida and craniostenosis and I have a very extensive experience in this field with hundreds of performed cases.

Spine Surgery is well developed in our department and I have extensive experience in spinal disc surgery, and spinal cord tumors excision and good experience in spinal fixation. I have performed more than 150 cases of lumber and cervical discectomy as well as laminectomy and most varieties of spinal fixation including cervical C1 – C2 fixation and lateral mass fixation, anterior cervical corpectomy and fixation, dorsal and lumbosacral screws and iliac screws fixation.

Surgery of brain tumors including Skull Base Surgery is another field in which I have excellent training and experience. I did most basic skull base approaches including, trans-sphenoidal, subfrontal, pterional, supracerebellar transtentorial, retrosegmoid and far lateral transcondylar approachs in the wake of excision of a variety of brain tumors including, pituitary and pineal tumors, basal meningiomas, acoustic schwannomas and craniopharyngiomas. In additions I attended workshops in skull base approaches including subtemporal approachs. I also operated many cases of extra-axial and intra-axial Brain Tumors with other approaches including anterior and posterior inter-hemispheric, subocciptal transvelliar and supracerebellar infratentorial approaches for tumors like parasagittal meningiomas, pineal teratomas, 4th ventricular tumors and tentorial meningiomas. In addition, I have a very good experience in glioma surgery including free hand and stereotactic biopsy, debulking and microscopic excision. I attended many cases and assisted in awake glioma surgery with neuronavigation and intra-operative MRI during my fellowship in Japan.

I have special experience in the field of Functional and Stereotactic Neurosurgery. I performed hundreds of stereotactic biopsies and I developed a personal software that calculates targets using Radionics stereotactic localizers presented with X, Y and Z co-ordinates for each point of its 9 points in stead of X and Y co-ordinates supplied by the manufacturer and allows free target choices even away from the plan of the 9 points. I have performed more than 40 of stereotactic biopsies using my personal software with documented intraoperative and postoperative accuracy for all cases. I also developed another personal software and maneuver that calculates targets using Radionics stereotactic frame without rigid skull fixation with pins. I have performed more than 35 of stereotactic operations using this new method with documented intraoperative and postoperative accuracy for all cases. My MD thesis was in neurosurgical management of movement disorders and I attended and assisted in more than 100 cases in Ain Shams University and Tokyo Women's Medical University including deep brain stimulation, thalamotomy, pallidotomy, spinal cord stimulation and peripheral denervation. Up till now our department is deficient in the required facilities for doing such operations although I have an extensive experience in these procedures. I have spent two years in Tokyo Women's Medical University (TWMU) working as a Clinical fellow of neurosurgery. During my stay in TWMU, I developed a personally designed software that calculates the functional neurosurgical targets attributed to the anterior and posterior commisures. I showed my software to my supervisor, professor Takaomi Taira, and tried it on more than 300 targets with confirmed accuracy compared to the Leksell's Surgiplan software calculations.

I also attended and assisted in many operations in most department units. I have special interest in Vascular Neurosurgery which is far advanced in Japan. I attended hundreds of cases of carotid end-artrectomy, as well as bypass operations for moyamoya disease. I performed aneurysm clipping and diagnostic neuro-endovascular surgery. As regard Neuro-endoscopic Surgery, I have attended workshops and performed endoscopic 3rd ventriculostomy, septum pellucidostomy, arachnoid cyst marcipalization and tumor biopsy for treatment of various cases of hydrocephalus.
