There are countless publications, essays, articles and lectures on the results of archaeological excavations in Egypt. The focus is on the research and work results of the scientists involved, who support the project and make differentiated statements about, for example, the use of a place in the course of pharaonic history and beyond. No or little mention is made in the publications of the excavation workers, who contribute significantly to the findings and findings through their physical work. This publication therefore shifts perspectives and focuses on local Asyut Project diggers. In 21 interviews conducted by Tina Beck in 2011 with these men, motivation, perceptions of the division into certain work positions as well as the relationship to the project and the participating scientists were asked. The results are presented against the theoretical background of postcolonial archeology and allow a critical reflection of archaeological working methods.
