Author's response: Vaginal length and incidence of dyspareunia after total abdominal versus vaginal hysterectomyl
In his recent study on dyspareunia after hysterectomy [1] Dr. Abdelmonem concluded that postoperative dyspareunia is more common after vaginal hysterectomy compared to abdominal hysterectomy, and attributed this difference to postoperative shortening of the vagina secondary to excessive trimming of the vaginal walls especially if vaginal hysterectomy was done for utero-vaginal prolapse. The report gives only the age, parity and BMI of the patients but no information about the mode of delivery, which is one of the major risk factors for dyspareunia among women
