All cases of antrochoanal polyps (ACPs) were recorded over a 3.5-year period. We faced 48 cases, 8 of which presented atypically as bilateral nasal polypi (5 cases), simultaneously occurring bilateral ACPs (2 cases; the first presenting also as bilateral nasal polypi), 2 ACPs occurring together on one side (1 case, presenting also as bilateral nasal polypi) and recurrent unilateral epistaxis (2 cases). Methods of diagnosis and management were mentioned.
Atypical cases constituted 16.7% of all cases of ACPs. Alleviation of symptoms was achieved following management in all cases. Recurrence occurred in two of the typical cases.
We concluded that, in some cases, ACPs presented atypical. These cases are not extremely rare as previously held. The use of nasal endoscope aided with CT scanning increased the recognition of these cases. Reporting such cases is important to direct attention of ENT specialist when facing similar cases.
