Amphibolite from Barud, Meatiq and Abu Markhat ares located in the Central Eastern Desert of Egypt were  investigated. Geologically, the amphibolites occur as intercalating lenses, slabs and elongated bands in the infrastructural granite-gneisses.

Geochemical data revealed that the analysed amphibolites are of igneous protoliths derived from basalts and basaltic-andesites. They display tholeiitic, calc-alkaline and low-K tholeiites affinites and are thus assumed to have been formed in an island arc tectonic environments.
