The litostratigraphic studies carried out on Tineh- 2 section representing  the Miocene succession in north Sinai led to the recognition of four main rock units, arranged from older to younger are: Qantara Formation of Early Miocene, Sidi Salem Formation of Middle Miocene, Wakar and  Rosetta formations of Late Miocene. The Qantara formation overlies the Tineh Formation of Oligocene, while evaporitic unit represents the Rosetta Formation overlies by Kafr El Sheikh Formation of Pliocene age.
