Correlation between keratometric and
refractive astigmatism in pseudophakic eyes
PURPOSE: To determine the correlation between
keratometric and refractive astigmatism in pseudophakic
eyes.
SETTING: Sohag university hospital, Department of
Ophthalmology, Egypt.
DESIGN: Case series.
METHODS: Consecutive eyes that had
phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation
during the period between June 2011 and June 2013 were
evaluated. The refractive and keratometric astigmatism
were compared 6 months posoperatively.
RESULTS: The mean postoperative keratometric
astigmatism (1.813±0.678D) in the 75 eyes was
statistically significantly higher than the mean
postoperative refractive astigmatism (1.64±0.634D)
(P<0.001).Regression analysis found a significant
correlation between the refractive and keratometric errors
of the J0 component (P<0.001) and beween the refractive
and keratometric errors of the J45 component (P<0.001).
CONCLUSION: Keratometric astigmatism was
responsible for about 49% of the refractive astigmatism
in pseudphakic eyes. Other factors induce astigmatism i
