This course deals with two branches of linguistics; semantics and morphology. The former studies the linguistic meaning. There is a difference between literal semantic meaning and non-literal pragmatic meaning. There are many sub-semantic areas such as lexical semantics, formal semantics, cognitive semantics and discourse semantics.
Morphology deals with the structure of a word in terms of the number and types of morphemes a word has. There is a distinction between free and bound morphemes. This part of the course presents some morphological phenomena like derivational morphology and inflectional morphology.
