A new series of ternary lanthanium(III) and cerium(III) complexes containing Schiff bases derived from some amino acids, viz: glycine; alanine; phenylalanine; valine and leucine with 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde as primary ligands, and 1-methylimidazole & 1,2-dimethylimidazole as secondary ligands were synthesized. The metal complexes of lanthanum(III) and cerium(III) with Schiff bases derived from the condensation of 2‐hydroxy‐1‐naphthaldehyde with _α_‐amino acids, viz. glycine, alanine, phenylalanine, valine, leucine and L‐glutamine, have been prepared and studied.
