In an attempt to find a new class of antimicrobial agents, a series of pyridoxazepine, pyridothiazepine, triazepine, naphthyridine, pyridopyrimidine, and other related products containing pyridine moiety were synthesized _via_ the reaction of 2‐amino‐6‐chloro‐3,5‐dicyanopyridine 1 with nucleophilic chemical reagents. In the present study, we report an environmentally benign synthesis of 2-arylbenzothiazoles derivatives from _o_-aminothiophenol and aldehydes in aqueous medium using _β_-cyclodextrin polymer as a catalyst and air as an oxidant. The water soluble cobalt(III) porphyrin complex (CoTCPP) was employed as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of the biologically active natural product tryptanthrin. The reaction proceeded under mild conditions in aqueous media at room temperature from various isatoic anhydride and isatin derivatives.
