The genus Lolia from freshwater habitats in Egypt with one new species.
A new species of Lolia and the sexual morph of L. aquatica are described, with illustrations, from decayed submerged wood in the River Nile, Egypt. Molecular phylogenetic analyses of partial SSU and LSU rDNA sequence data place the sexual morph of L. aquatica and the new species, L. dictyospora in a monophyletic clade, distant from the closely related fungi in ... Two new species of Kallichroma (Bionectriaceae, Hypocreales) from Saudi Arabian mangroves
During an ongoing study of marine fungi in Saudi Arabia, two undescribed Kallichroma species were recorded from decayed intertidal wood of Avicennia marina from two mangrove stands along the Red Sea coast and the Arabian Gulf coast in Saudi Arabia. Kallichroma asperum sp. nov. is characterized by rough ascospores cell walls surrounded by a granular sheath. Kallichroma ellipsoideum sp. nov. ... Read more

Two new cheirosporous asexual taxa (Dictyosporiaceae, Pleosporales, Dothideomycetes) from freshwater habitats in Egypt.
Two new cheirosporous asexual taxa (Dictyosporiaceae, Pleosporales, Dothideomycetes) from freshwater habitats in Egypt. Mycosphere 7(4), 448–457, Doi 10.5943/mycosphere/7/4/5 Abstract Cheirosporium vesiculare and Dictyosporium palmae spp. nov. were collected from submerged wood in the River Nile, Sohag, Egypt. Cheirosporium vesiculare is characterized by macronematous conidiophores, and non-complanate conidia, that are circular in vertical view with seven rows arranged in six peripheral ... Read more

Freshwater fungi from the River Nile, Sohag, Egypt.
This study represents the first published data of freshwater fungi from the River Nile in Egypt. Knowledge concerning the geographic distribution of freshwater ascomycetes and their asexual morphs in Egypt and in the Middle East is limited. Ninety-nine taxa representing 42 sexual ascomycetes, 55 asexual taxa and two basidiomycetes were identified from 959 fungal collections recorded from 400 submerged samples. ... Read more

Fungal diversity notes 367–492: taxonomic and phylogenetic contributions to fungal taxa.
This is the sixth in a series of papers where we bring collaborating mycologists together to produce a set of notes of several taxa of fungi. In this study we introduce a new family Fuscostagonosporaceae in Dothideomycetes. We also introduce the new ascomycete genera Acericola, Castellaniomyces, Dictyosporina and Longitudinalis and new species Acericola italica, Alternariaster trigonosporus, Amarenomyces dactylidis, Angustimassarina coryli, ... Fungal diversity notes 253–366: taxonomic and phylogenetic contributions to fungal taxa.
Notes on 113 fungal taxa are compiled in this paper, including 11 new genera, 89 new species, one new subspecies, three new combinations and seven reference specimens. A wide geographic and taxonomic range of fungal taxa are detailed. In the Ascomycota the new genera Angustospora (Testudinaceae), Camporesia (Xylariaceae), Clematidis, Crassiparies (Pleosporales genera incertae sedis), Farasanispora, Longiostiolum (Pleosporales genera incertae sedis), ... Fungal Diversity Notes 1–110: Taxonomic and phylogenetic contributions to fungal species.
This paper is a compilation of notes on 110 fungal taxa, including one new family, 10 new genera, and 76 new species, representing a wide taxonomic and geographic range. The new family, Paradictyoarthriniaceae is introduced based on its distinct lineage in Dothideomycetes and its unique morphology. The family is sister to Biatriosporaceae and Roussoellaceae. The new genera are Allophaeosphaeria (Phaeosphaeriaceae), ... Read more

Fungal diversity notes 111–252—taxonomic and phylogenetic contributions to fungal taxa.
This paper is a compilation of notes on 142 fungal taxa, including five new families, 20 new genera, and 100 new species, representing a wide taxonomic and geographic range. The new families, _Ascocylindricaceae_, _Caryosporaceae_ and _Wicklowiaceae_ (Ascomycota) are introduced based on their distinct lineages and unique morphology. The new Dothideomycete genera _Pseudomassariosphaeria_ (_Amniculicolaceae_), _Heracleicola_, _Neodidymella_ and _Pseudomicrosphaeriopsis_ (_Didymellaceae_), _Pseudopithomyces_ (_Didymosphaeriaceae_), ... A modern concept for Helicascus with a Pleurophomopsis-like asexual state.
Helicascus presently comprises two marine species, H. kanaloanus and H. nypae. During investigations of freshwater ascomycetes in Egypt, Malaysia and northern Thailand, we collected two new species of Helicascus from freshwater, which is a new habitat for the genus. Helicascus aegyptiacus sp. nov. is characterised by its smaller asci and ascospores with verruculose walls. Helicascus aquaticus sp. nov. is distinct ... Read more

Annulatascus nilensis sp. nov., a new freshwater ascomycete from River Nile, Egypt.
Annulatascus nilensis sp. nov., from freshwater habitats in Egypt, is described, illustrated and compared to other species in the genus. Phylogenetic analyses of its LSU rDNA sequence with similar fungi placed the new species in the genus Annulatascus (Annulatascaceae, Sordariomycetidae incertae sedis). Annulatascus nilensis is characterized by immersed ascomata with an ascomatal neck oriented horizontally to the substrate surface, asci ... Read more
