The common formed phases in all composites were rutile, Ni and TiNi with the presence of some tracephases. The higher sensitivity of Ti to oxidation and the presence of oxygen in the sintering atmosphere led to formation of rutile phase.
The porosity of sintered composites was decreased with increasing thesintering temperature and with the addition of Si, Al2O3 and aluminum dross. The minimum porosity was obtained for composites that contain 10 and 20% aluminum dross. This attributed to the presence of Al which has low melting point and to formation of another low melting phases.
The microhardness of sintered composite was increased with increasing the sintering temperature. Also, it increases after addition of Si, Al2O3 and aluminum dross. The refinement of microstructure and the existence of hard ceramic oxides as TiO2 and Al2O3 led to improvement of the hardness. The maximum hardness values were obtained for the composites that contain 10 and 20% aluminum dross.
