Publishing in highly ranked journals has its value and role in revealing scientific and scholarly prosperity in universities. It has become one of the most important international standards to rank universities. Consequently, researchers in education must have a good command of international standards of scientific publishing; and how to make use of these standards in their researches in order to enhance scientific research and prosper scientific knowledge as well. In addition, the extent of studies and research done by university members focusing on their scientific effect. These factors have inspired the researcher to carry on the current study to discern the extent to which Sohag Faculty of Education journal adopt some international standards used in order to evaluate scientific journals.

Consequently, the problem of the current study has been defined in the following major question:

What is the level and rank of Sohag Faculty of Education journal in relation to international standards for evaluating scientific journals?

In order to answer the above-mentioned main question, the following minor ones need to be answered:

  1. What are the international standards used to evaluate scientific journals and educational papers?
  2. What are the general formal features of Sohag Faculty of Education journal? To what extent does it adopt some international standards?
  3. What is the level and rank of Sohag Faculty of Education journal in relation to international standards for scientific publishing?
  4. What is the supposed vision to support and encourage taking into account international publication standards in writing educational papers?

The current study has aimed to:

  1. Identify the international standards used to evaluate scientific journals and educational papers
  2. Define the general formal features of Sohag Faculty of Education journal and the extent to which it adopts some international standards
  3. Investigate the level and rank of published papers in Sohag Faculty of Education journal in relation to international standards for scientific publishing
  4. Provide a proposed vision that may contribute to activate and support taking into account international publication standards in writing educational papers

To achieve the goals of the study, the researcher has adopted the descriptive method as one of the most appropriate methods to the nature of the study. In addition, she has used content analysis approach as an aspect of the descriptive method.

The current study has resulted in:

  • Educational journal, under investigation, is regularly published every six months; meaning it is a biannual Thus, it fits the first standard, i.e. regularity in publication.
  • Editor board of the educational journal, under investigation, includes various specializations; it contains various educational majors in the faculty responsible for the journal.
  • There is no variation in relation to editor board members of the educational journal, under investigation, as it includes Egyptian members only any help from non-Egyptian
  • No foreign councilor can be found among editor board of the educational journal, under investigation.
  • Variety of participating researchers' nationalities can be found in the journal.
  • For the journal to include each educational researchers, major of educational researchers varies.
  • Fourth standard indicators, i.e. "quality of published educational papers and its importance to international scientific research community", in the educational journal, under investigation, did not get any repetition; meaning that this standard is not available in this journal.
  • Educational journal, under investigation, takes into consideration jurors modifications that suggested when evaluating such papers.
  • No summary but in the source language, whether English, French, or Arabic, had been attached to any of the papers published in 2011 and 2012 volumes. However, four papers in Arabic attached a summary in English, were published in 2013 volumes.
  • Educational journal, under investigation, used modern technology receiving educational papers to be published, and contacting with jurors and researchers, as well.
  • Both indoor and outdoor scientific judgment of educational papers published by the journal could be found.
