Oxidation state (+II) of chromium
Chromium acetate dihydrate (red solid compound) is a good starting material for the preparation of other Cr2+ salts.
It is prepared by adding CH3COONa to Cr2+ solution under N2 atmosphere.
Cr2+ has a d4 configuration but Cr2(CH3COO)4.2H2O is diamagnetic.
