Diversity of Higher Marine Fungi from Egyptian Red Sea Mangroves.
The current study extends our knowledge of the biogeography of subtropical mangrove fungi from the Red Sea, which has not been well explored. Diversity of marine fungi in Red Sea mangroves in Egypt was assessed, and fungi dominating the communities were recorded and compared with those from other mangroves in subtropical and tropical regions. Intertidal decayed mangrove wood samples were ... Read more

Manglicolous fungi of the Red Sea in Upper Egypt.
Random wood samples and decayed attached twigs of _Avicennia marina_ were collected at three locations in intertidal zone of red sea and examined for the presence of higher marine fungi.Thirty-three species in addition to three unidentified species were identified in the present study. The fungi included twenty-six Ascomycotina, six Deuteromycotina and one Basidiomycete. The most common species were _Halosphaeria quadricornuta, Leptosphaeria australiensis_ ... Aliquandostipitaceae, a new family for two new tropical ascomycetes with unusually wide hyphae and dimorphic ascomata.
In two short surveys of lignicolous, fruitbody-forming ascomycetes in Thailand and southern China, six species were found, of which five were new to science. Two fungi with affinity to the Dothideomycetes, one from Thailand and one from China, are described here in the new genus Aliquandostipite and included in the new family Aliquandostipitaceae. Aliquandostipite khaoyaiensis was found in a tropical ... Read more

Fungal diversity in brackish and saline lakes in Egypt.
Aquatic filamentous fungi were surveyed from two brackish and two saline lakes in Egypt. Ninety-seven fungi (40 ascomycetes, 55 anamorphic fungi and 2 basidiomycetes) were identified from 764 fungal collections recorded from 545 samples collected from Lakes Edku, Marriott, Burullus and Quaron. Of these, 70 are new records for Egypt. This study represents the first report of aquatic fungi from ... Read more

Marine fungi from two sandy Mediterranean beaches on the Egyptian north coast.
I surveyed marine fungi collected from the Mediterranean coast of Egypt. A total of 31 taxa, including 19 ascomycetes and 12 anamorphic fungi, were identified from 100 submerged driftwood samples collected randomly along two sandy beaches. The most frequent fungus was Corollospora maritima. Other common fungi include C. portsaidica, Leptosphaeria oraemaris, Cumulospora marina and Periconia prolifica. Among the 31 taxa ... Read more

Lolia aquatica gen. et sp. nov. (Lindgomycetaceae, Pleosporales), a new coelomycete from freshwater habitats in Egypt.
An unknown coelomycete that was collected from the River Nile and associated irrigation canals in Egypt is described. The fungus is characterized by gelatinous pearl white acervuli, a peridium that forms textura intricata, holoblastic conidia that have one basal excentric cellular appendage, and up to 3-5 sub-apical cellular attenuating appendages. Based on morphology, no described genus can accommodate this new ... Read more

Phylogenetic evaluation of anamorphic species of Cirrenalia and Cumulospora with the description of eight new genera and four new species.
Four new helicoid anamorphic fungi collected from marine habitats in Egypt and Japan are described. Three marine and one terrestrial Cirrenalia species along with two Cumulospora species and the four new fungi were sequenced for LSU and SSU rDNA. Phylogenetic analyses of the generated sequences, along with those from GenBank, confirmed the polyphyly of the genera Cirrenalia and Cumulospora, and ... Read more
