Heavy metal pollution in result of human activities such as mining has become a critical environmental issue nowadays. Various methods for removing heavy metal from industrial wastewater have been investigated. This paper reviews an economic and environment friendly process known as biosorption. Biosorption is a potential alternative to the conventional treatment processes such as adsorption on activated carbon. Some factors such as solution pH may affect biosorption process. The equilibrium of biosorption process can be described by isotherm models such as Langmuir and Freundlich. Chitosan, zeolites and clay are the sorbents which reviewed in this paper and compared to commercial activated carbon in aspect of efficiency and price
