In this study, HNA imine compound was synthesized by a simple one-pot condensation of 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldhide with 2-amino benzoic acid in 1:1 ratio   and HNAP imine compound derived from 2-hydroxynaphthaldhide and 3-amino pyridine. Results of the newly synthesized compounds established by elemental analyses, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and electronic spectral studies experiments were consistent with their chemical structures. The theoretical DFT calculations were applied to verify the molecular geometry of the investigated chemosensors.  The sensor properties of all prepared imines were examined upon addition of the metal ions, such as Cr(III), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II),Zn(II),Cu(II), Mn(II), VO(II) and Pd(II). The interactions between receptors and ions are easily monitored by UV-visible spectroscopy. The HNA receptor showed color changes from yellow to intense deep orange color for Pd(II), a brown color for Fe(II) and different  colors  for other ions. Where the HNAP receptor showed color changes from pale yellow to intense deep green color for Co(II), ablack color for Cr(III) and different colors for other ions.
