Purpose of the educational post graduate program:

1- To provide the postgraduate students with the basic principles and advances in the field of urology and male infertility to be an independent urologic surgeon, leader and co-worker to solve urology and male infertility problems and treat diseases within Sohag and internationally.

2- To improve the graduates’ capabilities and increasing their intellectual, professional and practical skills in the field of urology and male infertility.

3- Provides Candidates with a training course in the field of urologic operations.

4- Promote research skills in the field of urology and male infertility.

Attributes of the post graduate:

I. General Requirements:

o Candidates should have either:
1. MBBChDegreefromanyEgyptianFacultiesofMedicineor
2. Equivalent Degree from Medical Schools abroad approved by

the Ministry of Higher Education
o Regulatory rules of postgraduate studies of Sohag Faculty of

Medicine.

II. Specific Requirements:

o Candidates graduated from Egyptian Universities should have at least “Good Rank” in their final year examination, and grade “Good Rank” in Surgery Course too.

o Candidate should know how to speak & write English well.
o Candidate should know have computer skills.
o Candidate should be trained for at least one year in one of the

general or discrete hospitals of Egyptian Ministry of health

A.1. The normal structure and function of the human genitourinary system system on the macro and micro levels.
A.2. The normal growth and development of the human genitourinary system.

A.3. The abnormal structure, function, growth and development of human genitourinary system and natural history of urologic and male reproductive diseases and problems.
A.4. The causation of different urologic diseases and male genital problems and their pathogenesis.

A. 5. The clinical picture and differential diagnosis of urologic, and

Male reproductive illnesses.

A.6. The common diagnostic and laboratory techniques necessary to establish diagnosis of urologic and male reproductive illnesses.

A.7. The various therapeutic methods/alternatives used for urologic and male reproductive diseases

B-Intellectual skills

By the end of this program candidates will be able to:

B1- Interpret data acquired through history taking to reach a provisional diagnosis for urologic and male sexual problems.
B2-Select from different diagnostic alternatives the ones that help reaching a final diagnosis for urologic and male sexual problems.

B3- Identify urologic and male sexual problems and find solutions.
B4- Have the ability to innovate nontraditional solutions to urologic and male sexual problems
B5- Conclude and discuss research results.

C. Practical and clinical skills

By the end of this program candidates will gain all of the following skills
C.1. Perform practice-based improvement activities using a systematic methodology in the following areas of practice:

  1. 1  Outpatient care

  2. 2  Inpatients care

  3. 3  Operative theater

  4. 4  Emergency department (including trauma unit)

C.2. Demonstrate basic sciences practical skills relevant to future practice . C.3. Take and record a structured, patient centered history .
C.4. Perform full physical examination of patients with acute and chronic clinical conditions appropriate to the age, gender, acute and chronic clinical conditions while being culturally sensitive .

C.5. Assess the mental state of the patient .
C.6. Record patients ' data appropriately .
C.7. Formulate a management plan for common diseases and acute emergencies .
C.8. Write safe prescriptions of different types of drugs based on patient's weight, age and health condition.
C.9. Provide first aid measures for injured and critically ill patients.

C.10. Perform bladder catheterization and cystoscopy and ureteric catheterization.
C.11. Perform different procedures and technical skills acquired under appropriate supervision during undergraduate and house officer training to do simple and some complicated urologic operations both surgically and endoscopically.

C.12. Perform different procedures and technical skills acquired under appropriate supervision during undergraduate and house officer training to deal with acute and chronic renal failure patients. .
C.13. Demonstrate competency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basic life-support .

C.14. Perform and interpret basic bedside laboratory tests . C.15. Perform and interpret urodynamic testing .

C.16.Perform and interpret abdominal and transrectal ultrasound examination.

C.17. Locate, appraises, and assimilates evidence from scientific studies related to his/her MS thesis.

C.18. Use information technology to manage information, access on-line medical information related to his/her MS thesis
C.19. Facilitate the learning of students and other health care professionals through preparing teaching cases for clinical rounds and organizing study materials such as radiographs, postoperative pathologic specimens
