:Abstract
bilharzial ureterl stricture is deemed with high rate of recurrence or reflux after surgical
correction or endoscopic dilatation if exceeded 12 f, will leat muscle cracking and restricture formation.
hence the use of a minimally invasive modality of treatmentis a necessity.
the aim of thsi study is to evaluatete efficacy of endocsopic incision for traetment of Bilhazial stricture ureter.
:Patinets and methods
Between July2000 and August 2001, 25 ureter with Bilharzial stricture at the lower third were treatedusing the holmium laser incision through a small caliber ureteroscope preoperative assessment including detailed history, urine analysis and clutue and sensitivity, ultrosoundas well as radiologicalassessment bu IVU.
the stricture were approached in aretrogardefashion with 6 fureterscope; the stricurewas incised. the only energy source was Holmium -YAG laser, indwelling stents were left in placefor at least 4 weeks postoperatively, and follow upwas obtained subjectively with radiological imaging.
Results:the patints studied were 20 cases(17 males and 3 females) with 25ureteral+units; Their median age was 37(rang 18-42) .the mean operative time was 45 minuts plus minus 7minutes.the siteof stricturewas lower third in all cases, the lentgth of strictures were (0.5-2.5 cm). follow up at 12 monthes , the upper tract dilatation resolved completly in 19 cases , four patients partilally improved and in one patient agrade 2 reflux was developedand in one patient does not improve.
