Abstract

The present study was aimed to assessing Scheduling System (Centralized and decentralized) and its Effect on Nurses Absenteeism Rate at Assiut University Hospital.  The subjects included (406) staff nurses. Tools of the study; Demographic Data Sheet and Absenteeism Rate formula: Data collection: data collected through personal interview for staff nurses and from schedules’ planning. The data collection was carried out during three months through 2006. Result the sample was female, aged more than 20 years old, married and experience years from one to less than 10 years, and they had diploma degree in nursing. The highest number of days lost due to absence for both centralized (1110) and decentralized scheduling system (745) for staff nurses working in intensive care units, and the lowest rate for both centralized (109) and decentralized scheduling system (123) are working in special units. Recommendations; give nurses opportunity to participate in putting days off according to their needs Application of decentralized system even at least in new established health institutions.
