Kidney cancer is the cancer that starts in the kidneys. Cancer starts when cells in the body begin to grow out of control. RISK FACTORS: Some of the risk factors for kidney cancer are as follows: ● Smoking: Smoking cigarettes increase people’s risk for kidney cancer twice that of nonsmokers. ● Being male: Men more prone to get kidney cancer as compared to women. ● Being obese: Extra weight may cause changes to hormones that increases the risk. ● Using certain pain medications for a long time in addition to prescription drugs. ● Having a family history of kidney cancer. ● Being exposed to certain chemicals, such as asbestos, cadmium, benzene, etc. ● Having high blood pressure. PREVENTION: In order to lower the risk of kidney cancer, following are the precautions that can be taken: ● Stay hydrated to help the kidneys function properly. ● Eating a good amount of fruits & vegetables helps prevent many of the symptoms. ● Quit smoking and/or drinking. ● Get the blood pressure checked regularly. ● Maintain a healthy weight.
