Possible Relief for Migraine Patients: Saussurea Lappa
bstract: This study conducted a clinical trial to evaluate the relieving effects of Saussurea lappa on migraine patients. The results showed that calcium and magnesium concentrations decreased significantly in patients while serotonin increased after two weeks of treatment with Saussurea lappa. The drug (Amitriptyline 20mg/day and Ibuprofen 400mg/day) decreased alkaline phosphatase level significantly, while Saussurea lappa had no effect on ... Read more

Biochemical and Histological Studies on the effect of Zearalenone Mycotoxin and Thymoquinone on Male Mice Kidney
ZEN was evaluated in male adult mice; given single and repeated doses of ZEN (2.7 mg/kg B.W). Also effect of Thymoquinone extracted from Nigella Sativa was assessed. Mice were divided into 4 groups. G1: receiving toxin once and dissected 48 hrs later, G2: given toxin twice a week for one week, G3: given toxin twice a week for 2 weeks, ... Read more

Investigation of the Biochemical and Histological Changes Induced by Zearalenone Mycotoxin on Liver in Male Mice and the Protective Role of Crude Venom Extracted from Jellyfish Cassiopea Andromeda
Zearalenone (ZEN) is a non steroidal estrogenic mycotoxin produced by Fusarium species of fungi which contaminate human foods and animal feeds worldwide. In this study hepatotoxicity of ZEN was evaluated in mice by oral administration of single and repeated doses of ZEN mycotoxin (2.7 mg/kg b.w.). The protective effect of crude venom extracted from jellyfish Cassiopea andromeda was also assessed. ... Read more

Mineral content and microbiological examination of some white cheese in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia during summer 2008
Different local and exported white cheese samples were collected from different markets in Jeddah during September 2008. Trace and heavy metals including Pb, Zn, Mn, Cu, Fe and Cd were analyzed using atomic absorption spectrometry. The concentration of the tested metals was in the range, Fe++ > Zn+++ > Mn++ > Pb++ > Cu++ > Cd++. The mean concentration of ... Read more
